     GTK UK has launched a new 5-inch transflective IPS TFT display. Such TFTs can reflect and transmit light in a variety of environmental conditions. In dim or dark ambient conditions, light from the backlight is transmitted through the transflective layer that provides light for the display. However, in bright ambient conditions, when exposed to sunlight, the TFT acts as a reflective display, improving the displayed image and enhancing the contrast ratio. As an IPS panel, it also benefits from all-round viewing angles and exceptional response time.

     Clive Dickinson, Exhibition business manager at GTK, said: "This reflection technology is ideal for outdoor applications. "During the day, the display uses natural light to operate in reflected mode, which minimizes power consumption. At night, the display switches to transmission mode and is backlit. A practical example of this is the outdoor parking meter display, which is easy to read during the day, and at night, when the user approaches the meter, the infrared sensor triggers a backlight."

      Clive said: "The advantage of this technology is that the reduced power usage can extend the life of the product by three to five years, which is significant for oems and needs to be taken into account when calculating the life-cycle cost of the finished product." Other applications for this technology include handheld meters, KIOSk displays, electric vehicle chargers, offshore electronics and outdoor digital displays."

   GTK is able to provide technical support and guidance to OEMs evaluating this innovative technology, as well as inform customization options such as capacitive touch technology and custom bezels.
