Onsemi, a leader in smart power and intellisense technologies, announced that it has delivered its billionth induction sensor interface integrated circuit (IC) to HELLA, an international automotive parts supplier and part of the FORVIA Group. The ON designed IC is used in HELLA's contactless Inductive Position Sensor (CIPOS) technology for automotive drive-by-wire systems. Over 25 years of collaboration, the two companies have developed innovative designs that reduce the size of the HELLA module and ON IC to better fit applications with high dimensional requirements for modules.

CIPOS is an induction technology used in drive-by-wire systems such as accelerator pedal sensing, steering and torque sensors, and supercharging and turbo actuators in passenger and commercial vehicles. The IC designed by ON is the core element of the HELLA scheme and together with the connected coil structure constitutes the inductive position sensor. This contactless solution guarantees accuracy for ON IC over the lifetime of the CIPOS system. Is also completely immune to stray magnetic fields, which is a key advantage for the electronics functional-oriented automotive industry. This industry-leading technology is widely used by major automotive Oems and HELLA is the global market leader in accelerator pedal sensors.

"Over the years, we have benefited from ON's technology and development expertise to build CIPOS into a market-leading sensor solution," said Marco Dobrich, head of HELLA's sensor business area. Anson Beauty's IC quality is outstanding, and our forward capacity planning with ON allows us to plan ahead and remain agile in challenging market conditions." The partnership between the two companies dates back more than 20 years to the successful release of the first automotive location sensor in 1999. Since then, ON has provided three generations of inductive location interfaces for Hela. Each generation of products has been developed exclusively for Hela in collaboration with both parties.

Sudhir Gopalswamy, senior vice president and general Manager of ON Advanced Solutions, said, "We could not have reached this milestone if our teams had not been as precise in understanding each other's technologies and processes. But we're not stopping there. We're already working on fourth generation sensor technology. This generation of products will include system-level improvements, particularly in the area of the Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL-x), as the automotive industry moves toward fully autonomous driving."
