The latest DRV2700 from Texas Instruments (TI) is a single-chip piezoelectric driver with integrated 105V boost switch, integrated power diode and integrated fully differential amplifier. The multifunctional device can drive high-voltage and low-voltage piezoelectric loads. The input signal can be differential or single-ended, and can be AC or DC coupled. The DRV2700 device supports four GPIO controlled gains: 28.8dB, 34.8dB, 38.4dB and 40.7dB. Use two external resistors to set the boost voltage. Boost current limit can be programmed through R (REXT) resistor. The boost converter architecture does not allow the demand for supply current to exceed the limit set by the R (REXT) resistor, which allows users to optimize the DRV2700 circuit for a given inductor based on the required performance requirements. In addition, the boost converter is based on a hysteretic architecture, which minimizes switching losses and improves efficiency. The typical 1.5ms start-up time makes the DRV2700 device an ideal piezoelectric driver that can quickly enter a sleep state. Thermal overload protection prevents damage to the device during overdrive.
